Together with a frequent feeling of fatigue, menopausal women can also experience some MEMORY impairment.

There is no clear evidence to suggest that this is in any way permanent, and the results of studies into whether hormonal changes are the cause have been inconclusive.

Memory is defined as “the mental capacity or faculty of retaining or recalling facts, events, impressions, or previous experiences.” Memory loss can be short-term, involving fleeting periods when one loses the mental capacity to retain or recall information. Common complaints from menopausal women include difficulty in remembering names, numbers, dates, addresses, where they put things, or what they have told people in conversation.

Since estrogen has a large effect on the brain, influencing language skills, verbal fluency, attention span, and mood, when this hormone drops during menopause, memory lapses can occur.
