STEP 20 - BLADDER CONTROL

broken image

Urinary incontinence—lack of BLADDER CONTROL—is the accidental leakage of urine and this can be common in older women during menopause.

The most prominent type of incontinence is stress incontinence. Up to fifty percent of women experience stress incontinence due to weak pelvic floor muscles. The weak muscles cause a small leakage of urine after coughing, laughing, sneezing, or lifting heavy objects. Obviously, such an occurrence can be embarrassing and distressing.

Incontinence can become more noticeable in menopause and post-menopause as muscles weaken with age. Estrogen helps a woman's muscles stay strong, so a lack of estrogen can cause thinning of the urethra (the tube that empties urine from the bladder).

A lack of bladder control can vary in severity from woman to woman. Estrogen not only keeps muscles strong, it also helps to maintain a healthy urinary tract; so as women approach menopause and estrogen declines, there is a greater risk of problems affecting the urinary tract.

Essential Oils can help support a healthy urinary tract and may lessen occasional loss of bladder control. These oils include:

• Cypress

• Copaiba

• Lemongrass

• Juniper Berry

• Basil

• Coriander

• Rosemary

• Massage Blend

CYPRESS is an Essential Oil high in monoterpenes which has an energizing and refreshing aroma. It has a grounding and stimulating effect on the emotions and is good to use in skin care.
